Welcome to our social media channel – we’re glad you’re here! Our social media channels are places for community members to connect and engage with BioMarin. Our goal is to provide useful and interesting content about our company, and foster an open and respectful dialogue. Medical and health topics may be discussed, but should not be construed as medical advice.

We welcome the opportunity to hear from you via social media, but the healthcare industry is a regulated environment. As such, we can’t engage in sensitive topics, discussion(s) about products – ours or other companies’ – or treatment options on social media.

Responsibility for Your Content:

You are responsible for the content that you post/comment on our social channels. You should only post content that is original and that you have the right to post. BioMarin is not responsible for any content posted by you and has no duty to monitor the content. Using any information provided by other users is at your own risk. We reserve the right to monitor, review, edit, remove, and delete user content, as well as disable, refuse, restrict, or terminate access to our social media channels.

We Will Not Accept and Will Remove Any Content That:

  1. Mentions products
  2. Infringes on the copyright, trademark, patent or other intellectual property right of any third party
  3. Is false, misleading, libelous, defamatory, obscene, abusive, hateful, or sexually explicit
  4. Violates a third party’s right to privacy or publicity
  5. Degrades others on the basis of gender, race, class, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual preference, disability, or other classification
  6. Contains epithets or other language, or material intended to intimidate or to incite violence
  7. Contains any commercial material or solicits any funds (charitable or commercial), perpetuates chain letters or pyramid schemes, promotes commercial entities or otherwise engages in commercial activity
  8. Violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law, or advocates illegal activity
  9. Violates social media platform rules

Please also note that our social media channels are English speaking only and as such any non-English messages may not be responded to.

In the spirit of social media activity, BioMarin will link to or follow accounts from related groups and communities. Accounts that BioMarin follows (or are followed by) are not an indication of BioMarin’s endorsement of these accounts, their opinions, or the content they produce.

These Guidelines are a subset of BioMarin’s overall Terms of Use.

Medical Side Effects, Adverse Events or Issues:

Social Media is not an appropriate place to resolve issues, complaints, suggestions or experiences with our products. These types of concerns are best handled by trained representatives. If you believe that you have experienced any medical side effects or reactions from any BioMarin product or treatment you should consult your physician, pharmacist or other healthcare professional immediately.

Please contact our Medical Affairs department at medinfo@bmrn.com or 1-800-983-4587 if you’d like to communicate with someone directly about a therapeutic area, clinical study or product of BioMarin’s. Please note BioMarin does not give medical advice, nor does it provide medical or diagnostic services.

Keep in mind that social media is a public forum, and that anyone may see or save your comments. We recommend not sharing any personal information within comments or posts on our pages. Sharing specific information concerning your personal health should also be avoided. If you decide to message BioMarin directly with details about side effects, BioMarin may contact you to find out more information.

Storing and Using Private Information:

We do not collect your social media handles/IDs, email or any other personal information except in certain limited situations. For example, if you report an adverse event or product issue to us, we need to record identifying information about you, such as your name, location, or health-related information. This information is required by law to be submitted to the BioMarin Drug Safety Department and/or regulatory authorities, and we are required to store this information for five years for auditing purposes.
