Gordon Vehar, Ph.D., joined BioMarin in January 2008 and currently serves as Vice President of External Innovation. In this role, he is responsible for the identification, evaluation and oversight of externally funded early research programs and the facilitation of decisions on eventual in-licensing. From 2008 to February 2020, Dr. Vehar served as Vice President of Research.
From 2000 to 2007, Dr. Vehar was Vice President, Research and Development at Raven Biotechnologies. He also held various positions at Genentech from 1980 to 2000, including Director of Cardiovascular Research, Project Team Leader for factor VIII (Kogenate, human tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) (Activase), TNKase, and Lymphotoxin) and Staff Scientist for Cardiovascular Research and Protein Chemistry.
Dr. Vehar earned a B.S. degree from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. in biological chemistry from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is co-inventor on numerous biotechnology patents and has authored more than 35 scientific publications.
