Apesar de ser o tipo mais comum de nanismo, a acondroplasia \u00e9 considerada uma doen\u00e7a rara, com incid\u00eancia de 1 a cada 25.000 nascimentos.<br \/>\nEmbora esse tipo de nanismo possa se manifestar na crian\u00e7a devido \u00e0 heran\u00e7a do gene de algum dos pais, na realidade, em 80% dos casos, a crian\u00e7a nasce com a condi\u00e7\u00e3o devido a uma nova muta\u00e7\u00e3o, de pais sem acondroplasia. A chance de pais sem a condi\u00e7\u00e3o terem outro filho com a doen\u00e7a \u00e9 considerada baixa; por\u00e9m, para pais acondropl\u00e1sicos, a probabilidade m\u00ednima \u00e9 de 50%.<\/p>\n<p>A suspeita da acondroplasia pode acontecer ainda na gesta\u00e7\u00e3o, normalmente no in\u00edcio do terceiro trimestre, a partir de uma ultrassonografia em que se observa o encurtamento de membros, como o f\u00eamur, al\u00e9m do tamanho da cabe\u00e7a. Entretanto, a confirma\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 feita a partir do exame de DNA fetal livre de c\u00e9lulas ou da coleta de sangue p\u00f3s-natal, para que seja constatada a presen\u00e7a da muta\u00e7\u00e3o no gene <em>FGFR3<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Por outro lado, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel que a suspeita da condi\u00e7\u00e3o seja levantada apenas ap\u00f3s o nascimento da crian\u00e7a. Faz parte de um grupo de doen\u00e7as chamadas de \u201cerros inatos do metabolismo\u201d e persiste ao longo da vida.<\/p>\n<p>Consiste na limita\u00e7\u00e3o ou impossibilidade do organismo em processar a fenilalanina, um amino\u00e1cido encontrado em alimentos que possuem prote\u00ednas. de batten\/lipofuscinose ceroide neuronal tipo 2, faz parte de um grupo de doen\u00e7as neurodegenerativas que ocorrem na inf\u00e2ncia, raras e de origem gen\u00e9tica, que causa sintomas progressivamente debilitantes, al\u00e9m da perda irrevers\u00edvel de c\u00e9lulas neuronais.<\/p>\n<p>Se apresenta como uma degenera\u00e7\u00e3o inesperada da fun\u00e7\u00e3o cerebral, frequentemente associada a doen\u00e7as encontradas em adultos como, por exemplo, o mal de Alzheimer, comumente diagnosticada incorretamente quando afeta crian\u00e7as.<\/p>\n<p>Muitas formas de doen\u00e7as neurodegenerativas na inf\u00e2ncia, que se apresentam inicialmente como convuls\u00f5es recorrentes, evoluem para danos cerebrais irrepar\u00e1veis, dem\u00eancia, epilepsia, cegueira e
