About Technical Operations

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

Senior Manager, Logistics (Inter-site)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION 

The Senior Manager, Logistics (Inter-site) is a member of the EUMEA Regional Logistics team with responsibility for the end-to-end inter-site logistics operation across the BioMarin network. The role is accountable for the compliant and temperature-controlled movement of clinical and commercial drug substance, drug product, and finished goods between BioMarin manufacturing, packaging, distribution, and storage locations, ensuring uninterrupted product flow and patient supply. The role acts as the Business Process Owner (BPO) for Inter-site Logistics, responsible for defining and maintaining logistics processes, driving standardization, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and implementing scalable solutions across the network.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Own the compliant, temperature-controlled movement of intercompany drug substance, drug product, and finished goods across the BioMarin network, coordinating activities between contract manufacturing operations, packaging sites, distribution centres, and internal stakeholders, including Global Supply Chain Planning and External Operations.
• Act as the Business Process Owner (BPO) for EUMEA Inter-site Logistics, ensuring processes remain compliant, scalable, effective, and aligned with business requirements.
• Establish and maintain standardized inter-site logistics processes, transport planning practices, governance frameworks, and visibility tools to drive consistency and operational excellence across the network.
• Own logistics performance management for inter-site logistics, including the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of key performance indicators such as OTIF, OTD, transportation performance, and order cycle times.
• Ensure compliance with GDP, cold-chain, trade compliance, and quality requirements, including oversight of deviations, CAPAs, change controls, and external partner quality activities.
• Partner with Global Trade Compliance to ensure customs, import/export, and documentation requirements are accurately maintained and executed.
• Support logistics budget management and cost-to-serve optimization through participation in LRP/AOP planning, vendor spend management, cost tracking, and accrual oversight.
• Contribute to distribution network strategy, transportation models, and regional logistics design decisions that support future growth and changing business requirements.
• Lead logistics projects end-to-end, including business case development, planning, execution, stakeholder management, implementation, and change management.
• Develop and maintain fit-for-purpose SOPs, work instructions, risk assessments, and process documentation to support standardization and audit readiness.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, carriers, distribution centres, and logistics providers to ensure reliable and compliant execution.
• Represent Inter-site Logistics on regional and global cross-functional initiatives, supporting broader supply chain transformation and operational excellence objectives.
• Support additional projects and business priorities as required.

SCOPE 

This role is responsible for supporting the efficient movement and storage of lifesaving therapies in compliance with applicable regulations. Decisions made in this role are of critical nature in mitigating risk for the business while ensuring BioMarin’s commercial products are delivered to patients in a timely and compliant manner.

EDUCATION

 Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field; an advanced degree or professional membership an advantage.

• In lieu of the above, another undergraduate degree plus continuing education in the logistics or extended supply chain management field.
• Lean Six Sigma certification preferred; yellow belt certification highly desired.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in supply chain, logistics, distribution or warehousing, with a demonstrated ability to operate at a senior level and take ownership of complex logistics activities.
• Experience managing suppler relationships, logistics performance and budgets, and influencing outcomes across functions without direct authority.
• Proven ability to lead projects and change initiatives and to drive continuous improvement within and across functions, enabling compliance and mitigating risk.
• Strong cross-functional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in logistics software and systems, and a solid understanding of logistics and supply chain principles.
• Detail-oriented, analytical problem-solver, able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
• Cold Chain experience highly desirable; experience in SAP.
