The Associate Director, Team Lead will be responsible for the execution of the therapy access strategy for an assigned territory while also serving as a player-coach leader for a team of Therapy Access Managers. This role will maintain direct account and territory responsibilities, support patient access by partnering with relevant internal teams including Patient Access Services, National Accounts Sales, Clinical Coordinators, Marketing, Trade, and Compliance, and provide product access education to HCPs and their office staff. In addition, the Associate Director will manage, coach, and develop direct reports, helping ensure consistent execution, strong collaboration, compliant access education, and achievement of team objectives. The Associate Director will propose and lead process improvement projects, assist with training design, serve as a mentor and escalation resource, and represent the team in internal forums as appropriate. This role may also be responsible for presenting during internal conferences and assisting with data analytics.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute institutional and field access strategy for an assigned territory while modeling best-in-class execution for the broader TAM team
- Maintain direct ownership of assigned territory accounts, including key customer relationships, access education, internal coordination, and territory-level account planning
- Lead, coach, and develop direct reports, including regular field coaching, performance feedback, prioritization support, and professional development planning
- Partner with leadership to translate national and regional access priorities into clear team expectations, execution plans, and measurable follow-through
- Identify and educate key clinic and institution stakeholders on patient support services, Hub processes, distribution models, and payer requirements to help support appropriate access to therapy
- Partner with Sales Account Managers, Clinical Coordinators, and Patient Support Services Hub teams to help HCPs navigate patient access needs; lead proactive touchpoints with internal matrix partners to keep all parties informed for relevant account planning purposes
- Serve as an escalation resource for direct reports and internal partners on complex account, payer, or access challenges while ensuring alignment with compliance requirements and approved resources
- Act as a liaison between the patient support services hub and HCP clinics to educate providers and office staff on patient support programs, including coverage authorization resources, co-pay assistance programs, and other hub and patient support services
- Provide live one-on-one educational support to HCPs and/or office staff and address questions about coverage requirements, including education on payers’ coverage authorization requirements and processes
- Champion compliance and ethical standards, coaching team members on best practices within a regulated environment and reinforcing appropriate field execution
- Analyze payer trends, field insights, institutional feedback, and team execution themes to inform strategic adjustments and support escalation pathways for challenging cases
- Educate HCPs, office staff, and institutions on how to work with patient support services hub, payer issues, policies/guidelines, trends, common reasons for PA delays, denials, and appeal processes
- Review escalated individual patient cases to identify and address coverage barriers; proactively scan payer policies tailored to clinic and territory needs and provide regular updates based on market dynamics
- Travel ~25-60% to support territory and leadership responsibilities, including field coaching, customer engagement, national meetings, and internal business reviews as appropriate
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industries experience, preferably including 7+ years in access/reimbursement
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop field-based colleagues, including experience training, providing feedback, mentoring, and helping drive consistent execution across a team
- Prior people-management experience preferred; strong candidates may also include those with informal field coaching, team lead, mentor, training, or project leadership experience
- History of consistent top performance in role, exemplary collaboration, strategic input, solution-seeking, and ability to champion a strong team culture
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong executive presence with the ability to thoughtfully engage and present complex information to senior leaders, peers, direct reports, and cross-functional partners
- Proven track record of supporting HCPs and office staff in seeking access/reimbursement that required significant payer and reimbursement support
- Experience with both ‘buy and bill’ and Specialty Pharmacy distribution pathways for specialty oral and injectable medications
- Strong knowledge of the payer environment, including but not limited to: government and commercial payers, assignment of benefits, letter of agreements, accumulators, maximizers, and manufacturer financial assistance
- Ability to professionally interact with customers – HCPs, office staff, and institutions – while also guiding and supporting direct reports in similar engagements
- Solid knowledge of patient support programs including HUB programs, co-pay assistance programs, and nurse educator support
- Track record of effective collaboration in a highly matrixed environment and ability to align cross-functional partners around shared account and team priorities
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Compliance with HIPAA regulations, OIG guidance, Advertising and Promotion requirements, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and applicable policies, best practices, and guidelines
- Strong planning and organization skills, including ability to balance individual territory responsibilities with direct-report coaching, team meetings, field travel, and administrative responsibilities
- Rare Disease, Specialty, and Launch experience

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong analytical skills, including ability to interpret payer, account, and team execution trends.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with ability to manage competing individual territory and people-leadership priorities.
- Ability to coach others through complex access scenarios, customer interactions, and compliant use of approved resources.
- Ability to facilitate team discussions, communicate expectations clearly, and follow through on performance and development priorities.
- Ability to travel overnight.
- Ability to schedule individual work-related travel and coordinate field coaching travel as needed.
- Ability to utilize own car for travel.
- Technical knowledge of healthcare from a patient and provider perspective, including miscellaneous codes, billing codes, and appeals processes.
Must be willing to travel ~25-60% of the time. Territory includes entire US and Puerto Rico.
Bilingual highly desirable.

The salary range for this position is: $151,000 to $207,570. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
