Role Summary
The Director, Media Strategy and Execution will lead the development and execution of media plans that support brand ambitions across BioMarin’s Metabolic Conditions Business Unit. This role will centralize media expertise across a complex rare disease portfolio, ensuring media strategy, investment, activation, optimization, and measurement are tightly connected to brand objectives, patient and HCP audience needs, business priorities, and performance outcomes.

The Director will serve as a strategic partner to brand teams, agencies and cross-functional leaders, bringing discipline, innovation, and accountability to how BioMarin plans and activates paid media across HCP, patient, caregiver, and related healthcare audiences. The successful candidate will combine rare disease marketing judgment, strong media fluency, agency leadership, financial discipline, and the ability to translate data into clear decisions that improve customer engagement and business impact.

This role will report directly to the Head of Marketing, US Metabolic Conditions.
Key Responsibilities
•    Lead portfolio-level media strategy across the U.S. Metabolic Conditions Business Unit, including 5 disease states, plus any additional as the business unit grows.
•    Partner with media agency to develop annual, quarterly, and in-cycle media plans that translate brand strategies, audience insights, market dynamics, and business objectives into clear media priorities, channel roles, tactical recommendations, and investment plans.
•    Partner with brand teams to define what media must accomplish for each brand, including awareness, education, diagnosis, treatment consideration, patient finding, switching, retention, adherence, and customer engagement objectives.
•    Drive integrated HCP and patient/caregiver media planning across channels such as paid search, paid social, programmatic, endemic and non-endemic media, video/CTV, digital partnerships, emerging platforms, and other priority media opportunities.
•    Ensure media plans are grounded in rare disease audience realities, including small patient populations, high-intent moments, complex treatment journeys, HCP specialty dynamics, caregiver roles, and compliant use of data and targeting capabilities.
•    Lead media budget planning, allocation, scenario development, and funding tradeoff recommendations across brands, audiences, campaigns, and vendors.
•    Oversee agency partners across media strategy, planning, buying, trafficking, tagging, optimization, reporting, innovation, and budget stewardship, holding partners accountable for quality, efficiency, transparency, timelines, and measurable impact.
•    Partner with Procurement, Finance, Commercial Operations, and brand teams to improve working/non-working media efficiency, strengthen scope discipline, and ensure media fees, pass-throughs, invoices, accruals, and reconciliations are managed appropriately.
•    Establish consistent planning principles, operating rhythms, decision forums, documentation standards, and performance review processes across the portfolio while allowing for brand-specific needs and market conditions.
•    Collaborate with internal teams, including Brand Marketing, Digital & Analytics, Business Operations, CRM, Privacy, and Compliance stakeholders to ensure media plans are integrated with omnichannel roadmaps and customer engagement capabilities.
•    Define measurement frameworks, KPIs, dashboards, reporting inputs, and learning agendas in partnership with agency, analytics and digital teams, ensuring measurement goes beyond activity metrics to assess business impact.  Identify optimization opportunities and recommend action.
•    Champion a test-and-learn culture by identifying emerging channels, innovative media partnerships, AI-enabled media opportunities, audience refinement approaches, creative testing, and measurement pilots that can improve customer relevance and business impact.
•    Bring forward portfolio-level learnings and best practices that can be transferred across brands to improve efficiency, consistency, capability building, and commercial impact.
•    Influence senior stakeholders through structured recommendations, clear storytelling, strong strategic judgment, and evidence-based decision-making.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.
